Mimosa Echard: ‘Plant sexuality has always fascinated me’

The artist, winner of the 2022 Marcel Duchamp Prize, created a garden where vegetation and objects meet and unite

In this episode of ‘Inner Worlds’, Mimosa Echard opens her studio in Nogent-sur-Marne, near Paris. While telling the story of this place, she reflects on her singular and dreamlike artistic practice which embraces diverse processes and mediums, from assemblage and painting to ceramics and video games. Informed by our relationship to nature and the plant world, her work centers on the image, and questions the relationship between nature and the production of mainstream merchandise. Echard tries to combine these distinct elements, ‘to create,’ she explains, ‘a kind of common existence.’

Mimosa Echard is represented by Galerie Chantal Crousel (Paris). She is the winner of the 2022 Marcel Duchamp Prize.
